Cut the opening, reinforce the cut area, and install a door system that’s designed to be welded into place. The biggest mistakes are skipping framing/reinforcement and rushing alignment—both can cause sagging, leaks, and doors that don’t close cleanly. Our Weld N Go Door is a great option for this.

In most cases, yes. Cutting corrugated sidewalls removes strength and can lead to flexing or distortion over time. A welded steel frame around the opening helps restore structural integrity and provides a solid mounting surface for doors, tracks, and hardware. Common planning guidelines: • If you’re replacing the original end doors, many installs use ~7' wide. • If you’re replacing an end wall section, ~6' wide is common. • For sidewall access, width depends on use—many people choose 6', 7', or 8' as “most common.” (Final sizing depends on what you’re loading and where the opening lands relative to container structure.)

Use a bottom barrier that redirects water away from the opening (a threshold-style solution) plus a bottom-of-door seal (a gasketed shoe). The goal is to prevent water from “wicking” or flowing inside at the lowest point. We recommend our threshold plates for roll up doors and man doors.

A rain guard/header cap above the opening helps deflect runoff away from the door and reduces water tracking down into gaps at the top.

Protect the locking point. Most break-ins happen by cutting or prying exposed padlocks or attacking the latch area. A lock-protection housing makes the lock much harder to access with cutters and grinders.

They don’t make a container “impossible” to break into, but they significantly reduce quick attacks by denying tool access to the padlock. That deterrence is often the difference between being targeted or skipped.

Both are passive vents. Turbines increase airflow using wind-driven rotation, while louvers provide static airflow with no moving parts. The best option depends on placement, desired airflow, and preference for moving vs. fixed designs.

Not always. Bars are common for public-facing installs, remote job sites, or high-theft areas. If the container is in a secure yard, many people skip them for a cleaner look and better visibility.

Common sizes are often chosen based on interior layout (desk height, bed placement, counter height) and exterior constraints (corrugation and framing). Many builds start with roughly 2’x2’, 3’x3’, or 4’x3’ style footprints and adjust to the project.
